A Chemical Awareness and Handling training was held in September 2015  under the Development of the National Implementation Plan (NIP) Project by HATLAR Group Pty Ltd . During the training, a practical session was also conducted at KG VI School which includes the cleanup and repackaging of school chemicals. This cleanup resulted in the segregation of school chemicals into categories for disposal but did not address the disposal options available in the Solomon Islands for various categories of chemicals.

A follow-up training on Chemical Disposal was recently from 12th-16th September 2016 in Honiara .The training was organized by the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, Disaster Management and Meteorology and supported by the SIMCAP Project under the United Nations Development Program. This follow-up Training expands on the first training and include different techniques on the treatment of chemicals to enable their safe disposal.

With the training conducted in Honiara it includes a 2 ½ day lectures and 2 days practical sessions a total of 12 officers from relevant Government line ministries and Private sectors were involved in a week long program. During the practical session, participants were involved in collecting the chemicals that were stored  at KGVI school chemical storage room to Ranadi Dumpsite for proper disposal. As part of the training, participants were also engaged in sorting out and properly storing the old chemicals from the Geology Laboratory.  

The training was succesfully held with all the participants having learned alot from the program.
