Description:
Ecosystem services surveys and quantification of carbon in mangrove forests, working with MECDM on policy for Reduction of Emission from land degradation and deforestation (REDD), Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES) act for mangroves.
Aim: To demonstrate community poverty alleviaiton, climate change mitigation and benefits thorugh payment of ecosystem services through the management and conservation of the mangorve ecosystem.
Objectives:
- Furnish the academic and development community with practical experience and knowledge as to the usefulness, challenges and benefits of small-scale carbon offset programs in developing Pacific Islands
- Help communities expand social benefits, such as improved awareness of the value and income opportunities of mangrove preservation
- Attain environmental benefits from sustainability managed mangrove forests
- Disseminate meaningful policy and practical benefits to stakeholders by creating innovative pathways for mangrove conservation, poverty reduction and climate change action at national and local levels
